Most people have never seen their own scalp.
Under magnification, the answer is usually visible: the density, the condition of the follicle and the state of the skin between the hairs. It is the difference between guessing at a product and knowing what is happening.
How many hairs are growing from each follicle, and how that compares across the scalp.
Flaking, inflammation, buildup and irritation: the things that leave a scalp uncomfortable.
Where the thinning is and where it is not, which is often what tells the story.
I do not diagnose. I assess what I can see, I care for what is within my scope, and I tell you plainly when something belongs with a doctor.

I have spent my career on textured hair. Somewhere along the way, the clients who came to me with thinning, shedding and irritated scalps sent me back to school. I studied trichology and dermotricology so I could answer them properly.
